Dubai Chamber Seminar Highlights Best Practices In Supporting People Of Determination

Seminar focused on case studies and recent efforts to improve physical accessibility within corporate buildings in Dubai

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently hosted an informative seminar where members of its Sustainability Network highlighted best practices in supporting people of determination and improving physical accessibility within corporate buildings in Dubai.

The seminar, held at the Chamber’s premises, was organised by the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network’s task force on Inclusion and Employment of People of Determination.

During the event, representatives from Emirates NBD, Wings of Angelz, Dubai Chamber, and Dubai Center for Special Needs provided an overview of key accessibility-related challenges faced by people of determination, as well as tangible solutions to overcome such obstacles.

Joining the panel discussion during the event were Dr. Hussain Maseeh

Social Care Expert, CDA; and Eng. Saeed Abu Zaher, Senior Compliance Controller (Engineering), Knowledge & Human Development Authority; who shared their insights on key challenges associated with implementing accessibility requirements outlined under the Dubai Universal Design Code for buildings and public spaces in the emirate.

The panellists spoke about how their organisations are helping companies improve accessibility within their offices, and identified practical solutions which have been successfully adopted within existing buildings.

For his part, Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, explained that the seminar supported Dubai Chamber’s efforts to promote CSR in the business sector, adding that facilitating the integration of people of determination in the workplace is an important matter that is being addressed by Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network members and the wider business community in Dubai.

Established by the Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business (CRB), the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network serves as the focal point for the business community to share and exchange best practices in implementing CSR. The network provides an opportunity for local companies to network, learn, share experiences and constitute CSR leadership.

The Centre for Responsible Business was established by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004 to support and promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. The Centre’s objective is to engage the Dubai business community in assuming greater responsibility for the emirate’s social and environmental needs. The CRB also promotes Dubai as the GCC’s gateway for global commerce by offering its business partners an environment of transparency and rule of law.
