10th UAE Cancer Congress Opens In Dubai Tomorrow

"Experts to highlight the role of biosimilar drugs in eliminating cancer"

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Cabinet Minister, Minister of Tolerance in the UAE and President of the UAE Genetics Association, the 10th UAE Cancer Congress is set to open tomorrow 11th of October and continues until the 13th of October at the InterContinental Festival City Hotel, Dubai. 

The conference, which is being held under the theme of “Promoting Excellence in Oncology and Striking Away Cancer", focuses on the latest developments in combating various types of cancer, raising the standards of medical care among specialists and doctors and providing optimal solutions for prevention by highlighting scientific developments and research in the field.  

Organised in partnership and support of UAE Genetic Diseases Association, the 10th edition of the UAE Cancer Congress features 14 subspecialties of cancer treatment during various sessions such as: Breast Cancer Session, Breast Surgical Oncology Workshop, Cancer Imaging Workshop, Nutrition Workshop, Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancer Session, Gynaecological Oncology Session, Lung Cancer Session, Oncology Nursing Session, Palliative Care Session, Immuno Oncology Session, Head & Neck Master Course and Urology Session.  

The conference serves the UAE national health agenda including a core mission of creation of a world-class healthcare infrastructure. Reducing the number of deaths due to cancer which is one of the key performance indicators of the pillar of world-class healthcare of the UAE National Agenda. 

The conference brings together this year leading physicians, experts and specialists in the field of cancer treatment and is expected to attract more than 2,500 visitors and participants from the region and the world spanning over three days. In addition, the conference is set to witness the participation of over 200 speakers from more than 75 countries, feature over 14 scientific sessions, with a ‘Live Workshop from Tata Memorial Hospital in India’. In addition to that, the conference features over 100 poster presentations on many key trending topics related to cancer research. During the conference, delegates and participants will also have a unique opportunity to gain 51.5 CME credit hours from Dubai Health Authority and the chance to interact with the best minds in the industry.   

Running parallel to the conference, the exhibition will witness the participation of 33 exhibiting companies, who will showcase the latest technologies and equipment in cancer treatment currently being used by leading specialists and surgeons across the world.  

In its 10th edition, the UAE Cancer Congress, also hosts the first edition of the ‘Asia Pacific Middle East Biosimilar Summit’, which will serve as a key platform to raise awareness and understanding about ‘biosimilar products’ while also offer pharmaceutical and biopharma companies a unique opportunity to build a viable roadmap to succeed in the global biosimilar market. The summit will address a number of topics related to the future of biosimilars including the ‘Pros & Cons and misconceptions about ‘Biosimilars’, the latest data from the global biosimilars landscape, case studies and regulatory approvals and patient/physician acceptance in detail.   

While new innovative drugs have certainly improved outcomes for many cancer patients, spending on cancer drugs has correspondingly increased in recent years, putting a severe burden on patients’ expenses, government’s healthcare expenditure and its resources. According to experts, biosimilars can play a crucial role in reducing expenses and addressing the problem of cancer drug costs. 

According to a recent report by the global Market Research Firm IMARC Group, the global biosimilar market size was estimated to be 2.9 billion dollars last year and it is projected to reach 15.6 billion dollars by 2023, owing to a number of factors such as the patent expiries of a large number of biological drugs, the rise in ageing population and a predicted increase in the number of non-communicable diseases.  

The 10th UAECC, being held until the 13th of October, is organized by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions – a member of INDEX Holding in partnership with UAE Genetic Disease Association, and cooperation of Dubai Health Authority, Oncology Nursing Society, Emirates Urological Society, Tata Memorial Centre and Indian Cooperative Oncology Network, India.
