Nomination period for Abu Dhabi Awards begins

Residents of the Emirate are encouraged to recognise acts of goodness

The nomination period for the 2008 Abu Dhabi Awards begins on 7 September and will run throughout the holy month of Ramadan and Eid. With the nomination process easier than ever, Award organisers are inviting all residents to nominate individuals who have selflessly contributed to the community and the people of the Emirate. Made possible by the commitment of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council, the Awards have generated more than 93,000 nominations and recognised more than 13,000 individuals since they began in 2005. “The success of the Awards ultimately relies on the participation of the people of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,” said Maryam Amiri from the Abu Dhabi Awards Organising Committee. “What we want people to understand is that everyone can participate and anyone can receive an Award, regardless of age, ethnicity or even how many nominations they received, so every nomination really does count.” Starting today, residents can visit any of the 23 Abu Dhabi Awards booths located in major malls and public places across the Emirate, including Al Ain and the Western Region. In addition to a promotional team, Takatof volunteers will also be present at these booths to assist residents with the nomination process. Alternatively, residents can simply choose one of the following ways to register their nomination: • Placing a completed nomination form into one of the 88 Abu Dhabi Awards collection boxes located across the Emirate • Stopping one of the Abu Dhabi Awards-branded smart cars when they see it • Directly online via the website www.abudhabiawards.ae • Faxing a completed nomination form to 800 33300 • Posting a completed nomination form to 44442, Abu Dhabi “Without nominations, those people who have selflessly dedicated their time and resources to helping others and the community may go unrecognised,” added Ms Amiri. “By nominating them for an Abu Dhabi Award, not only can you show your thanks and appreciation but you are also encouraging other people to be inspired by their stories and to follow their example.” The 2008 Abu Dhabi Awards nomination period runs from Sunday, 7th September to Sunday, 5th October. The 2008 recipients will then be announced at the Abu Dhabi Awards Ceremony in December. For more information on the Abu Dhabi Awards, residents can visit the website www.abudhabiawards.ae or call the Abu Dhabi Awards hotline on 8003331.
