CNIA Spots The Sunken Ship Off Zirco Island In Abu Dhabi











The cargo ship that went missing since Wednesday somewhere between Jebel Dhanna and Al Garnin Island off Abu Dhabi has been determined sunken. The Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA) said that at the end of the intensive search operations it had carried out over the past four days, the officials could mark the location where the ship sank 15 nautical miles off Abu Dhabi’s Zirco Island. The cargo ship belonging to Delma Cooperative Society was carrying trucks and cars when it went missing with seven crew members on board due to bad whether that hit the country . CNIA Director General Brigadier Muhair Ali Al Khatiri said that the rescue team sent by CNIA could find the body of a drowned crew member washed ashore at the Mubarad Island, some 25 nautical miles away from the site of sinking. Brig. Al Khatiri said the rescue team is still continuing its search for the remaining crew of the ill-fated ship. He kept his hope alive for finding the remaining members alive somewhere out in the sea. The Brigadier added that CNIA is currently focussing on activities to keep the navigation in the area uninterrupted. "The salvaging of the ship may take some more time as it has settled on the seabed", said Brig. Al Khatiri. Al Khatiri hailed the cooperation between the CNIA, the Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its affiliates for searching the ship and finding the site of accident. "CNIA had mobilised six military boats and two helicopters to help the search mission, but the search efforts were seriously hampered due to sandstorm that obstructed the vision", said Brig. Al Khatiri.
