Abu Dhabi Police Launch ’Your Health In Ramadan’ Medical Initiative

Abu Dhabi Police have launched 'Your health in Ramadan' initiative to increase awareness about the correct practices that should be adopted by those fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

Colonel Jassim Al-Tunaiji, Director of Medical Services Department, said that the initiative was part of the campaign 'Your Safety is our Happiness', which aimed at enhancing knowledge and right practices, and providing guidance to diabetes patients, so that they could avoid the side effects due to lack or excess of food eaten during Ramadan.

He highlighted the importance of raising health awareness among the people about the types and quantities of food they should eat and scheduling their medicine intake correctly during this month to protect their health, especially, among those suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma.

Al Tunaiji emphasised the keenness of the police leadership to increase the UAE happiness index, noting that health is an integral part of the happiness of individuals and the community, and therefore the Abu Dhabi Police Medical Services Department was always keen to launch several health initiatives throughout the year, including Your health in Ramadan, targeting the health of the people undertaking fasts. It aimed to raise their awareness on the correct practices to be followed during the holy month, he added.

Captain Dr. Ali Omar Menhali, Director of Health Education Branch, maintained that the initiative was an extension of the successful campaign launched last year during Ramadan while noting it included tours to promote health awareness through conducting primary medical examinations, and covering several health topics in co-operation with the police departments and strategic partners.

The initiative will cover topics such as prevention of diabetes, its implications, and other chronic diseases, healthy nutrition management during the fasting period, how to manage the medicine schedule during Ramadan, as well as advice for drivers in co-operation with the traffic and patrol department, besides providing information about other topics through flyers, workshops and social media, as well as free of charge check-ups coinciding with the Year of Giving in the UAE.
