Abu Dhabi Quality And Conformity Council Unveils Pilot Project To Classify Automotive Workshops In Abu Dhabi

System to Rate Services of Vehicle Repair Facilities in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, has launched a pilot project to classify automotive workshops in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with SAAED for Trafficking Systems.

Abu Dhabi’s first classification scheme for automotive workshops seeks to elevate the standard of vehicle repair services in the emirate by rating them through a system of one to five stars. A team of representatives of all concerned entities including the private sector developed the star-rating classification scheme based on a number of mandatory and optional requirements. These requirements fall into seven standard areas: security, health and safety, appearance and environment, manpower, tools and equipment, materials, and methods of work.

Engineer Abdullah Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of Conformity Scheme Services at QCC, said: “In offering services related to quality infrastructure, QCC seeks to support the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Plan, such as creating an enabling business environment and empowering the private sector. We are confident that our vehicle workshop classification scheme will enhance the competitiveness of the emirate with regard to the quality of services provided to motorists, while providing an enriching experience for customers and members of society at large."

He added: “Following an extensive study, leading experts from relevant entities in the emirate incorporated international best practices as well as the specific requirements of the automotive sector in Abu Dhabi into the criteria. The scheme aims to motivate car workshop owners to upgrade their offerings, improve the quality of their services, and ensure customer satisfaction.”

During the pilot stage, teams comprising representatives from Saeed will visit automotive workshop and perform the assessments. Facilities that fail to meet the mandatory requirements will have to achieve compliance within a defined timeframe.

The classification scheme drew the participation of QCC’s key partners including Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zones, Department of Economic Development, the Centre of Waste Management, Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Center, Abu Dhabi Chamber, the General Directorate of Civil Defense Abu Dhabi, Health Authority – Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council and

Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. QCC empowers regulators to implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. The Council also sets guidelines and benchmarks to verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
