Manarat Al Saadiyat Ramadan Evenings Celebration Of The Holy Month Draws To A Successful End

The wide selection of cultural experiences for the Holy Month of Ramadan at the inaugural edition of the Manarat Al Saadiyat Ramadan Evenings, organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and staged from 4th to 17th June, has successfully concluded and is set to return next year as an ongoing annual event.

The evenings encouraged visitors to celebrate Ramadan through a vibrant expression of Emirati culture, offering a contemporary Iftar experience, engaging workshops, creative activities, retail experiences and captivating live performances, including an outstanding array of symphonies by Bait Al Oud musicians designed to appeal to individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General of TCA Abu Dhabi said: "Manarat Al Saadiyat Ramadan Evenings offered an engaging interactive programme of activities in a culturally authentic atmosphere, presenting contemporary aspects alongside traditional values in an experience that celebrated the unique cultural heritage of the UAE."

The unique Iftar experience provided by Al Fanar restaurant over the course of the event, and curated by renowned designer Maryam Al Suwaidi, creative florist Sumayya Al Miskari and talented Emirati chef Faisal Naser, was particularly well-received. Enjoying an eclectic mix of Arabic/Emirati fusion cuisine, diners were treated to a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Emirati Iftar in a design inspired by the aesthetic of UAE architecture during the 1980s and 1990s.

"By encouraging visitors and residents to experience activities that ranged from moving poetry readings to culinary experiences and breathtaking musical performances, we hope to inspire the community on a yearly basis to engage with the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan through the unique lens of Emirati culture,” HE Ghobash added.

Hosted in the galleries of Manarat Al Saadiyat, craft enthusiasts of all ages were invited to engage with educational workshops on silk painting using Islamic motifs, Islamic inspired pattern designs, calligraphy and traditional skills such as ‘Talli’ embroidery and ‘Sadu’ weaving. Contemporary elements of UAE culture also expressed themselves through a selection of retro video games that entertained children and adults alike.

Directly inspired by the communal character of Ramadan, the evenings placed an emphasis on interactive activities designed to draw engagement from visitors. Examples of these activities included an interactive mosaic mural project, weaving workshop presented by the Fatima Bint Mohamed Initiative, lantern making, a puppet show that encouraged participation from the audience, a book corner that hosted recitals from popular authors and a variety of vintage board games.
