Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque receives over 290,000 worshipers and visitors in September 2017

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi last month received 295,496 visitors from all over the world, according to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, SZGMC.

The centre organised various events in September, particularly the 'Hajj: Memories of a Journey' exhibition, which was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The exhibition, which runs until 19th March 2018, explores the holy journey of Hajj, one of the five fundamental pillars and practices in Islam. It highlights the experiences of Emirati pilgrims over the years. Through a showcase of artefacts, historic photographs, multi-media displays, and commissioned contemporary installations, the exhibition unfolds a rich and engaging narrative charting the history and cultural context for this spiritual journey.

Among the SZGMC highlights in September also includes the launch of the UAE's unified Hijri calendar for the year 1439. The project is a result of three years of comparative field studies and review of industry best practices by a group of UAE, Arab and Islamic scholars, and specialists in physics, space and astronomy, specialised committees and working groups.
