The Seventh Edition Of The Sharjah Stamp Exhibition Concludes At Mega Mall

The curtain closed on the 7th Sharjah stamp exhibition on Saturday evening, after it saw a great growth in the number of visitors and sales volume this year. The exhibition, which was organized by the Emirates Philatelic Association, in cooperation with Mega Mall Sharjah, attracted large numbers of stamp and currency dealers and specialists, as well as visitors, students, and tourists.

The exhibition, which witnessed the participation of exhibitors from 17 countries around the world, displayed large collections of ancient and rare stamps, including the first postage stamp in the world which was issued on 6th of May 1840. The exhibition also witnessed a number of postage stamps with certain errors in writing, dates, pictures, drawings and other details, which carry a substantial monetary value due to their limited availability among enthusiasts.

The Mega Mall of Sharjah has provided many facilities for participants and exhibitors. The exhibition included 120 showcases, which are divided into 46 different themes and organized according to the interests of the exhibitors and the type and quality of their exhibits. The exhibition also included events such as lectures titled "Iraqi financial and postage stamps," and “Save Palestine: 1948-1951," as well as a public auction on rare stamps and currencies which witnessed a remarkable turnout of traders and enthusiasts.

The UAE stamps issued prior to the Declaration of the Union on the 2nd of December 1971 achieved significant sales due to the desire of UAE, Gulf and Arab collectors in acquiring them. The demand was especially high for the complete and unused collections, as well as stamps of official events, and modern stamps available in limited quantities which were sold mostly at high prices due to their high demand.

Currencies received a lot of attention from collectors, especially paper currencies from the Gulf, where some were sold for more than tens of thousands of dirhams, while novice collectors acquired the currencies of countries that are hard to reach, such as distant islands, small states and currencies that have changed in the past few years.

Abdullah Khoory, President of the Emirates Philatelic Association, stated that the exhibition witnessed a huge turn out from collectors, hobbyists and vendors of rare stamps, coins and paper currencies. He also stressed that stamps have great historical and artistic value behind them, as well as high financial value that increases every year.

Mohammed Sorour, Marketing Manager of Mega Mall, stated: "We are pleased to witness this great turn out for the 7th Sharjah Stamp Exhibition, which has become a platform for vendors, collectors and hobbyists to communicate, share experiences and sign deals.”

The exhibition contributed to the revitalization of stamps and currency trade among collectors and enthusiasts, who found the shortage with the collections of some traders as an opportunity to present what they had to other collectors and enthusiasts by organizing small auctions between themselves. They also carried out a lot of deals with each other that were profitable, which offered buyers attractive investment opportunities due to the continuous rise in the prices of some stamps and rare currencies.

In addition to stamps and currency, the exhibition includes many ancient and limited collections of medals, sports and military insignias, old issues of newspaper and magazines, and maps and manuscripts with some dating back to hundreds of years ago. The exhibition also included pictures of leaders and celebrities, and personal souvenirs left by individuals and families that have great historical value.
