EMC, EGA and ADSC to donate AED 75 to charity for every birdie scored at 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA

As the official automotive sponsor of the 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA, Emirates Motor Company (EMC) is celebrating the renowned golf tournament by donating thousands of dirhams to SEDRA Foundation for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.

In collaboration with Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) and Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), EMC has pledged to donate 75 AED for every birdie scored by the players during the tournament, held from 18th to 21st January at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, as part of its Drive for Charity campaign.

EMC, the authorised Mercedes-Benz distributor in Abu Dhabi and the flagship company of ALFAHIM, is sponsoring the event for the third year in a row and has donated significant amounts to Abu Dhabi centers during previous tournaments in collaboration with ADSC.

This year, EGA has generously joined to triple the donation to the chosen entity, SEDRA Foundation, a non-profit organization that facilitates the inclusion of people of determination in the UAE. The contribution will jumpstart an initiative to support sports and healthy active life styles for young adults.

Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Director of ADSC marketing and communications, expressed his pride of this initiative, saying it reflects the interaction of all corporations with charitable causes. He assured that ADSC is so keen to support such initiatives in alignment with the “Year of Zayed” as this slogan calls for supporting the needy and all types of humanitarian deeds.

Concluding; Al Qubaisi said: “We do thank EMC and EGA for collaborating with ADSC to support this initiative.”

Walid Al Attar, Chief Marketing Officer at Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “EGA has supported the development of professional golf in the UAE for over 25 years. This year’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA looks set to be the best ever. We are pleased to join Abu Dhabi Sports Council and EMC to celebrate great golf in Abu Dhabi by helping SEDRA in its important mission to help people with determination.”

SEDRA Foundation under the chairmanship of HH Sheikha Aljazia Bint Saif Al Nahyan provides corporate training, community partnerships, and pilot initiatives towards comprehensive inclusion for people of determination of all ages.

Ramez Youssef, Group Head of Marketing & Communications at ALFAHIM, said: “As one of the highlights on the capital’s sporting calendar, Emirates Motor Company is proud to once again be named as the official automotive sponsor of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA. It’s fantastic to see some of the world’s best golfers in action again and we hope they are all on top form to score as many birdies as possible to help us raise some money for an important nationwide cause.”

“The Drive for Charity campaign is an important initiative for EMC and is in line with ALFAHIM’s, CSR strategy and core values of Humanity and Commitment towards the country’s vision. We are delighted to be tying up with SEDRA this year to help us in fulfilling our mutual goals of enriching and further improving the lives of people in the UAE.”

The technical term for a hole played in one stroke under par is a ‘birdie’. During last year’s tournament approximately 1,500 birdies were scored in total, therefore if the players manage the same high level of golf this year, over AED 110,000 could be raised collaboratively.

With some of the best players in the world taking part in this year’s Championship, including Matt Kuchar, Henrik Stenson and Rory McIlroy, SEDRA Foundation looks certain to receive a significant boost.

As well as a commitment to helping a vital initiative in Abu Dhabi, EMC is also giving visitors the chance to win a brand new Mercedes-Benz GLA 250.

Visitors to EMC’s mobile showroom in the Championship Village will be asked to guess the number of birdies scored by the players throughout the tournament for the chance to win a weekend test drive in a luxurious Mercedes-Benz.

The showroom, next to the Etihad stand in the Championship Village area of the Abu Dhabi Golf Course, will also host state-of-the-art VR games where visitors will be able to play golf or get behind the wheel of a rugged 4x4 vehicle for a virtual race across some unforgiving, computer-generated terrain. Various Mercedes-Benz models will also be positioned around the course for visitors to inspect.
