Abu Dhabi Takes Part In Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2018

Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, DoE, took part in the 4th edition of Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2018, BETD, organised by the German government in association with International Renewable Energy Alliance, REN Alliance, from April 17th to 18th in Berlin, Germany.

BETD is a platform for international public and private audiences to come together to discuss viable concepts for the ongoing global transformation of the energy sector.

DoE delegation, headed by Eng. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, DoE Chairman, got first-hand knowledge of the most-up-to-date technological advancements and solutions in the energy sector and infrastructure.

They also learned about the experience of the German Federal Republic in the renewable energy arena.

During the two-day event, Al Marar met with a number of German officials, including Peter Altmaier, Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, to discuss means of cooperation in energy and renewable energy areas.

Al Marar briefed the German official on the achievements of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in producing energy from clean and environment friendly sources, pointing out that Abu Dhabi is currently working afoot on increasing its clean energy production.

"We are aiming at producing electricity from different sources at minimum cost, while identifying more secure and sustainable sources," he said.

"Noor Abu Dhabi, or "the light of Abu Dhabi" in Arabic, which is the world's largest independent solar power plant to be built in Swaihan area, Abu Dhabi, at a total cost of AED3.2 billion, echoes the emirate's determination on utilising alternative sources of energy," he said.

The plant will produce 1177GW of electricity and is scheduled to start supplying the emirate's network with electricity by the Q1 of 2019. "It will decrease our dependence on imported natural gas and contribute to realising our plans for diversifying our energy resources, consequently boosting the emirate's economy," he said.

Al Marar commended the strong ties between the UAE and Germany and the contributions of the German companies working in the Abu Dhabi energy sector.

The DoE representatives are participating in the event as part of the UAE official delegation.
