Special Olympics UAE Puts on a Stunning Final Group Stages Performance to Charge into the Semi Finals |

The Special Olympics UAE Football team ended the group stages of the Special Olympics Unified Cup – currently being held in Chicago, USA - on a high last night, winning the third and final of its group stage matches with a stunning 7-0 defeat against USA Texas. So UAE will now go on to play Uruguay in the semi-finals, with the hope of taking the Unified Cup home ahead of the World Games in Abu Dhabi next year. The tournament consists of 16 teams in the men’s format and eight in the women’s. Unified Sports is a key initiative for Special Olympics across the world and emphasizes the importance and life-changing effects for all of those involved when people with intellectual disabilities play sport alongside those without. About the 2019 Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi (AD2019) Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi will be the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world in 2019. From March 14 to 21, 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches representing more than 170 countries will participate in 24 officially sanctioned Olympic-style sports in venues throughout Abu Dhabi. The first ever Special Olympics World Games to be held in the Middle East and North Africa will also be the most unified Games in the 50-year history of the Special Olympics movement, with inclusion of people of determination with intellectual disabilities in every aspect of the event. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 is an integral part of local, national and regional plans to expand opportunities for people of determination in line with Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s shared vision of a unified and inclusive society. |
