FAB Announced As Official Partner Of The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019











First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the UAE’s largest bank and one of the world’s largest and safest financial institutions, signed an agreement with the Local Organising Committee of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 today, establishing the bank as an Official Partner of the Games. The Games are set to take place from March 14 – 21, 2019.

The agreement was signed by Jasim Al Ali,CEO,Real Estate Group at FAB and Khalfan Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Managing Director of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, at FAB’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The ceremony was attended by Abdalla Al Mansoori, who will be the first Emirati athlete to represent the UAE in tennis at the Special Olympics, and Emirati Special Olympics swimmer, Omar Sharif Afif Asad Alshami, alongside a number of FAB and Special Olympics representatives.

The signing coincides with worldwide celebrations taking place this week to mark the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics. As part of the celebrations, FAB is participating in a global ‘Light Up for Inclusion’ initiative, by lighting up its headquarters in red from sunset to midnight on July 19 and 20. The initiative, which is being supported by over 70 landmarks around the world, represents the Special Olympics’ ongoing mission to end discrimination against People of Determination with intellectual disabilities and create inclusive communities worldwide.

Commenting on the agreement, Jasim Al Ali said: “The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 is an important milestone in Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s continued efforts to promote tolerance, inclusion and unity throughout the emirate, nation and region. In line with our ongoing commitment to make a positive impact in the communities we serve, we are proud to be playing a role in ensuring the success of this significant humanitarian event, which will add momentum to the global Special Olympics movement and help to empower People of Determination.”

The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 are expected to attract more than 7,000 Special Olympics athletes representing over 170 countries throughout the world, who will compete in 24 officially sanctioned Olympic-style sports in venues across Abu Dhabi. Set to be the largest single event ever held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the first Special Olympics World Games in the Middle East and North Africa, the event will be attended by over 45,000 spectators and viewed by millions worldwide.
