Abu Dhabi University Student Research Recognized At Leading Scientific Conference In Thailand

Abu Dhabi University (ADU), an internationally recognized center for quality education and applied research, has received recognition for leading-edge work conducted by its students following their recent participation at the Fourth International Conference on Chemical Materials and Process (ICCMP), held in May at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.

The students from ADU’s College of Engineering, were honored with an award for ‘best presentation and idea’ for their contribution at a workshop held in parallel with the main ICCMP conference. Their innovative research is scheduled to be published, along with other outstanding presentations at the event, in the MATEC Web of Conferences (ISSN 2261-236X) journal.

Speaking on the accolade, Dr Waqar Ahmed, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, said: “Our participation at ICCMP, and its successful outcome in the form of a scientific publication, testifies to ADU’s growing international reputation as a center of excellence in research. We are very proud of this achievement that demonstrates the quality of the advanced research being conducted by the high caliber staff, faculty and students within our vibrant and productive university community. ADU will continue to play an active role in such international conferences as we expand our research capability, thereby nurturing our students, and building on our existing collaborative partnerships around the world.”

An annual event held this year from May 23 to 25, ICCMP has established itself as a leading global forum for expert practitioners and researchers working in the most advanced fields of study related to theoretical and practical aspects of the chemical materials and processes field.

Members of the academic committee at the event included Associate Professor Gustaaf Schoukens of Belgium’s Ghent University, Associate Professor Yebin Xu of China’s Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Associate Professor Javad Foroughi of Australia’s University of Wollongong, and Associate Professor Aleksey Vasiliev of East Tennessee State University in the United States.

Dr Omar Chaalal, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at ADU said: “The students presented their capstone work at the conference before an audience of renowned experts in the field that included internationally acclaimed faculty members and specialists in chemical engineering. The fact that their capstone subject was treated as an innovation shows how successful they were.”

Dr Chaalal added: “This award is excellent recognition for the work being done at Abu Dhabi University, and hopefully it will encourage more students to present papers and represent the university at similar international events.”

As a leading regional center of academic excellence, Abu Dhabi University offers globally competitive curricula and unique tailored degree programs that enable students to maximize both their academic and career potential. ADU’s three campuses in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai host a vibrant and cosmopolitan student population drawn from more than 70 nationalities, and are equipped with state-of-the-art science, computer and engineering laboratories, lecture halls, media studios and a dedicated library housing over 25,000 titles.
