Sharjah Ramadan Fair Targets Families

25-day-long Ramadan & Eid Fair offers shoppers great deals, low prices and entertainment activities

Offering a multitude of shopping and entertainment activities for nearly a month, the 26th Ramadan & Eid Fair got under way at Expo Centre Sharjah on Thursday (July 26, 2012).

Billed as the most comprehensive multi-products consumer event in the region, Ramadan & Eid Fair, which usually starts in the first week of Ramadan and extends until the Eid Al Fitr festivities are over, caters to the specific needs of consumers looking to observe both the solemn fasting period as well as the festivities associated with Eid Al Fitr.

The nearly month-long event was inaugurated by Mr Ahmed Mohamed Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Expo Centre Sharjah. It was attended by Mr Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah, senior SCCI and Expo Centre officials, representatives from government departments and industry leaders. It will run until August 19.

“Substantial government spending on expanding oil & gas and tourism facilities and improving road networks has boosted economic growth prospects of the country. Thousands of new jobs have been created on those projects, generating enough disposable income for contractors, their employees and other stakeholders, which is translating into stronger consumer,” said Mr Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, after inaugurating the fair.

“The recent wage hike and returning consumer confidence will also see residents spending more this Ramadan. And, the Ramadan & Eid Fair will be the best shopping event that can meet all their household requirements while enjoying a series of entertainment activities, all under a single roof,” he added.

Retailers taking part in the Ramadan & Eid Fair are expecting increased sales of all types of food items, other groceries, electronic appliances that help in cooking and preserving food, refrigerators and air conditioners, furniture, air purifiers, perfumes and cosmetics, cookers, deep fat fryers, blenders, juicers, meat mincers and vacuum cleaners to keep the house clean in order to host their extended families and friends.

They also expect residents to invite their friends, relatives and business associates from neighbouring GCC states and their home countries, who are likely to spend more on home appliances, clothes, furniture, toys, stationary and long-life food products.

Youngsters are likely to splurge on sports equipment & wears, besides there will be all-round demand for gadgets like mobile phones, laptops, tablet computers, computer & mobile accessories, apart from gift items, jewellery and fashion accessories.

“Ramadan & Eid Fair is a complete family shopping and entertainment extravaganza. Ramadan is time when spending by residents peaks thanks to family get-togethers, elaborate Iftars & Suhoors and food & household items distributed by charitable organisations. Families ensure that they stock up enough food & groceries and put their homes in order to welcome their friends and relatives. The Ramadan & Eid Fair will be a boon for families,” said Mr Saif Mohammed Al Midfa.

“We have exhibitors from China, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Syria, Turkey, and the UAE offering great deals on a wide variety of consumer goods and products for the whole family,” he added.

Apart from being an excellent shopping venue, shoppers can also expect to gain immense benefits from the Value Card offered by the United Nations’ World Food Programme, win air tickets, large LCD TVs and many more prizes and engage themselves in some serious fun at the many entertainment activities lined up at the show.

Other attractions include free medical check-up, heritage village, multi-cuisine food court, cookery demonstrations by five-star hotels during weekends, daily games & workshops and entertainment activities on Eid days.

The show is open for visitors from 8.30pm to 1.30am during Ramadan and on weekends (Thursdays & Fridays) from 8.30pm to 2am. During Eid holidays the visiting hours are from 5pm to 11pm.

The Ramadan & Eid Fair is being organised by Expo Centre Sharjah in association with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
