Representatives from the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) met to discuss future avenues for cooperation between these two entities. The talks between these two entities come in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to nurture and encourage cultural growth in Sharjah and the Emirates, and to foster closer bonds of support and collaboration between various government departments and other entities in order to ensure the cultural development of the region.

The meeting, which was attended by Ahmed Al Ameri, SIBF Director, Salim Omar Salim, SIBF Head of Marketing & Sales, and from Ministry of Education , Murad Abdulla, Director, Government Communications Department, and Fathiya Mohamed Ibrahim, Head of Public Relations Section, Government Communications Department, aimed to explore ways in which the SIBF and the Ministry could work together to further their mutual goals.

During the Meeting Al Ameri thanked Humaid Al Qutami, Minister of Education, for the great and unlimited efforts he makes in the cultural development in the region, and his call for encouraging and motivating students to participate and meet Arab and international authors and literary figures during the Sharjah Book Fair, to be held from 7-17 November 2012.

Murad Abdullah, Director of the Government Communication Department at SIBF, seized this opportunity to extend his profound gratitude and thanks to His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who established Sharjah as a beacon of knowledge and culture as well as a highly reputed and globally recognized cultural destination that goes beyond all geographic borders.

Abdullah said: “The SIBF serves as a unique platform for the book industry through which Sharjah managed to reach out to the lovers of the written word wherever they are in the world.”

On this Occasion Ahmed Al Ameri, SIBF Director said, “Ready and easy access to books is one of the most vital prerequisites for creating a society where a culture of education and learning thrives. The SIBF is continuously striving to be at the centre of knowledge and literature in the region, and as such are committed to creating and supporting initiatives that advance education amongst all residents of our country, and our youth in particular. We are very pleased to have been able to make use of this opportunity to discuss ways through which we may collaborate with our colleagues at the Ministry of Education in order to further strengthen the culture of learning in the UAE.”

The representatives from the SIBF called on the Ministry to provided every means of support possible to enable school students to attend the 2012 Sharjah International Book Fair, stressing the excellent opportunities that the Fair provides students to and come into contact with a variety of cross-cultural experiences and expand their knowledge base. The SIBF also requested the MoE to present a number of workshops during the Book Fair to further enhance the fair’s already comprehensive offering of value added events.

SIBF was established in 1982 under the patronage of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and has grown to become one of the biggest book fairs in the Middle East.

The 10-day annual event is a direct result of Sharjah’s dedication and commitment to developing and maintaining a culture of reading within the Emirate and the UAE, as is clearly encapsulated in the SIBF motto – For the love of the written word.
