The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) welcomed a delegation of Stanford University students on a visit to Sharjah, who had come to the UAE in the holy month of Ramadan to understand the country’s religious zeal and experience its rich traditions. On the occasion Al Sarkal said, "We are very glad to see the keen interest that these students have shown in the cultural and religious heritage of Sharjah and the UAE by visiting the country in Ramadan. In today’s world where globalisation is eroding local cultures, the emirate of Sharjah, while adding modern amenities and designs to its structure, has also preserved and developed its culture. It was good to see a sense of history and appreciation for tradition in these students." The tour was organised in such a way so as to give the students the best possible understanding of Sharjah’s diverse and indigenous Arab culture. The Shurooq team also discussed the various key projects undertaken by the authority in order to develop the Emirate along modern lines, while keeping the authentic local culture fully preserved. Shurooq elaborated on the Al Majaz Waterfront - a state-of-the-art tourism and leisure complex which reaches the highest levels of international standards and Al-Qasba - which was re-launched in 2009 and is Sharjah’s premier tourism, cultural and business destination. The 12 MBA students from Stanford’s Business School were visiting Sharjah along with a number of other emirates.
