Ras Al Khaimah Ruler Visits Sharjah Pavilion, Inspects Tourism Projects

Sharjah to boost tourism investment projects in the emirate

His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah today visited the Sharjah pavilion at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai on the day two of the exhibition where he was received by HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.

Al Noman briefed the Ras Al Khaimah Ruler on the various upcoming tourism projects in the emirate, including the ambitious Kalba ecotourism project unveiled by Shurooq at the ATM today.

The SCTDA Chairman said that Sharjah was working to boost and attract new tourism investment projects in the emirate, with a view to strengthen the tourism and hospitality industry infrastructure.

Welcoming the new ambitious ecotourism project unveiled by the Shurooq in Kalba on the East Coast of Sharjah, Al Noman said that the environment friendly projects like this were part of the emirate’s vision of promoting environment tourism on the East Coast and elsewhere.

Pointing out that Sharjah has always been known for its environment friendly policies and has been the first to embrace the idea of ecotourism in the region, Al Noman said that the SCTDA is following the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah on this front. He said with its long coastline and the mix of mountainous, green and desert landscape, Sharjah offers immense potential in the area of ecotourism, which has emerged as a big market around the world.

He said: “Sharjah has taken a quantum leap with several ambitious tourism projects that depend on factors like natural beauty and a pristine environment, offering international tourists a chance to enjoy the beauty and purity of nature and Arabian flora and fauna. These projects not only promote ecotourism, they also strictly adhere to global environmental specifications, taking into account the nature and specificity of the history of the region.”

Al Noman described the Kalba ecotourism project "as the first of its kind in the region."

The SCTDA Chairman said the SCTDA is working with other public and private sector players to support the all such tourism projects, which is driving the growth of this sector and contributes to the revitalization of the national economy. “These environment-integrated tourism projects also serve the trend of the diversification in tourism.”

Meanwhile Sharjah’s pavilion showcasing the best of the emirate’s tourist attractions, heritage and culture continues to attract the UAE and region’s key economic players and decision makers as well as the highfliers of the international tourism and travel industry. The Arabian Travel Market is being held from April 30 to May 3 at the Dubai International Convention Centre.
