Delegates called SIBF the best platform to promote Venezuelan authors

A delegation from Venezuela visited representatives from the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) to discuss matters of cross-cultural cooperation between Sharjah and the South American country.

The delegation, headed by Amer Al Kadi from Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, met with Salim Omar Salim, head of sales and marketing at SIBF, discussed ways through which Venezuelan participation and collaboration could be increased within the GCC region, as well as Venezuela’s participation in the upcoming edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair, which will be held from the 7th to the 17th of November this year.

Head of sales and marketing at SIBF Salim Omar thanked the Venezuelan delegation for the visit and welcomed their participation in the SIBF’s upcoming edition, “The SIBF is committed to the spread of knowledge and extending bridges of cultural communication with the outside world, as per the directives of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi. We aim to inculcate the love of books among youngsters, and provide them at a price which is affordable for all. We are extremely pleased to be able to explore avenues of cooperation with our colleagues from Venezuela, and look forward to the rich cross-cultural experience that is to be gained from this mutually beneficial relationship, “Salim said.

Salim went on to comment that being endowed with a rich culture that has been preserved and developed over the years, the UAE encourages cooperation among nations, especially in the field of education, book publishing and the exchange of knowledge.

Amer Al Kadi from Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expressed his delight at the meeting as well as his profound thanks to HH Dr Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for his unlimited efforts and generous patronage of the Sharjah Book Fair.

The visiting delegation underlined the globally recognised reputation of the SIBF and went to describe the SIBF as the best platform for the promotion of Venezuelan authors and intellectuals in the GCC region and beyond, as the Fair attracts publishers and book lovers from all over the world with more than 500,000 visitors pouring in from across the globe.

On behalf of SIBF Director, Salim also invited the Venezuelan ambassador to the opening ceremony of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2012, to be held for the 31st consecutive year this time.

SIBF was established in 1982 under the patronage of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and has grown to become one of the biggest book fairs in the Middle East.

The 10-day annual event is a direct result of Sharjah’s dedication and commitment to developing and maintaining a culture of reading within the Emirate and the UAE, as is clearly encapsulated in the SIBF motto – For the love of the written word.
