Sharjah Media Centre Successfully Concludes First Ramadan Majlis Series


Closing Session Discusses "Heritage of the UAE.. Reality and Ambition"










Sharjah Media Centre, the official media entity of the government of Sharjah functioning under the umbrella of Sharjah Media Corporation, concluded its first Ramadan Majlis series with a panel discussion on ‘Heritage of the UAE: Reality and Ambition’.

Held under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation, the session was moderated by Rashid Al Kous, Director, Knowledge Without Borders.

The panelists comprised Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Director of Heritage, Culture and Information Department Sharjah; Abdullah Al-Mutairi, Chancellor and Executive Director of Heritage at the Tourism and Commerce Marketing Department Dubai, and Ali Al Matrooshi, Heritage and Local History Advisor at theDepartment of Tourist Development Ajman.

Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, welcomed the audience that included a significant number of media representatives and members of the public.

In his opening note, His Excellency Abdul Aziz Al Musallam highlighted the Culture and Information Department’s role in portraying the heritage of Sharjah, utilizing technology to compile relevant cultural content and data, offering access to students and researchers to enabling resources, and sharing rich insights in the field of folklore.

His Excellency Al Musallam added that the far-sighted vision and tireless efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, helps preserve and spotlight the heritage and culture of Sharjah on regional and international platforms. Elaborating on the UAE’s effort in the implementation of cultural development projects and preservation of cultural heritage, he added: “The UAE leads by example in fostering positive interaction with a myriad cultures and nationalities through coordinating cultural, scientific and artistic efforts.”

His Excellency Abdullah Al-Mutairi stressed on the Dubai Department of Tourism’s keenness to maintain and document the nation’s heritage for future generations. He said: "I invite all people of the UAE to revive the heritage of our forefathers, instill the concepts of authenticity in the hearts of the younger generation and teach them to communicate with the glorious past of our ancestors."

His Excellency Ali Matrooshi elaborated on the vision of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman. He said: “In addition to prioritizing the comprehensive development of the Department of Tourism, the Ruler of Ajman is committed to building synergy between traditional and contemporary aspects of life.”

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi said: "The Ramadan Majlis and its educational sessions have enriched our Ramadan evenings and achieved positive cultural objectives. The series attracted a large number of intellectuals, media and thought leaders, as well as those interested in gaining clarity on the various issues raised. We hope to continue hosting such insightful sessions not only during the Holy Month of Ramadan, but throughout the year in order to enhance media and social communication in the emirate of Sharjah."

In his concluding remarks, Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, expressed his gratitude for the positive feedback received from the media and the public about the success and value generated by the Ramadan Majlis series. He also offered his reassurance on Sharjah Media Centre’s continued efforts to serve as a cultural bridge between the aspects of tradition and modernity.
