SCTDA Sponsors 10th Edition Of Sharjah Heritage Days Fest

Committed to promoting the identity of emirate’s culture and heritage, says Al Noman

The Sharjah Commerce and Trade Development Authority is once again taking a leading role in promoting the celebrated Sharjah Heritage Days festival, which opens today and will run until April 20th. The Authority has joined hands once again with the Heritage Directorate of Sharjah’s Department of Culture and Information to sponsor the event and promote the cultural identity and heritage of the UAE and Sharjah.

This year, the Sharjah Heritage Days, in its 10th edition, runs under the slogan, ‘A Decade of Heritage’, and will be held throughout the emirate, including in Sharjah city, to celebrate the country’s popular heritage, culture and literature with special focus on the vocabulary and diversity of Bosalth and its role in the lives of the Emiratis in general and children in particular.

Commenting on the association with the Sharjah Heritage Days, SCTDA Chairman Mohamed Ali Al Noman said that despite all the advancements and progress on various fronts, Sharjah remains true to its cultural roots, traditions and heritage. “This is the unique and most distinguishing factor of the emirate. This is why the UNESCO designated Sharjah as the Cultural Capital of the Arab and Islamic world in 1998. And Sharjah continues to celebrate this spirit and the SCTDA is committed to these efforts to promote the cultural identity and heritage of the emirate. We have been delivering highest levels of support and participation by promoting Sharjah as a complete family tourism destination with strong values and culture. The emirate enjoys a very unique tourism vocabulary,” said Al Noman.

This year, the Sharjah Heritage Days will have a new feel with features such as scientific lectures and focus on Arab world’s cultural horizons. The changes were made based on the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah under whose patronage the event is held.

Al Noman added, "The patronage given by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah for Sharjah Heritage Days and other events and cultural programmes have turned Sharjah into a bridge between the past and the present and the centre-stage of the cultural, intellectual, literary and lifestyle currents and movements in the country.”

Meanwhile the Heritage Area in the Heart of Sharjah is the perfect place to be during the 17 days of the Sharjah Heritage Days festival where heritage and history have come to life. Shurooq, the investment and development arm of the Sharjah government, has been giving finishing touches to the massive restoration and revival of the Heritage Area, which already attracts thousands of tourists and residents.

The SCTDA has been associated with the Sharjah Heritage Days festival since its inception, in line with its objectives to promote the emirate as a tourist destination with a unique heritage in the region. It has been promoting Sharjah’s growing tourism sector and unique attractions at various regional and international exhibitions and events and by supporting all actors and initiatives to promote cultural and heritage tourism in the emirate.
