Western Union (NYSE: WU), a leader in global payment services, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with American University of Sharjah (AUS), one of the region’s most renowned universities, to foster a stronger relationship between the two parties. The MoU is intended to provide AUS students with a comprehensive, hands-on, educational and practical programme in the corporate world while supporting academic research and a series of white papers in collaboration with AUS scholars and professors, particularly in the fields of remittances and women’s empowerment. The programme aims at establishing academic and scientific cooperation. It will incorporate the formulation of various research papers tackling the growth, practices and applications of the financial and remittances industries in the region. It will also continuously promote academic excellence and dissemination of industry knowledge amongst students through sharing global best practices and their local implementation. "We are proud today to add AUS as one of our new associates. Together, we successfully identified ways to nurture the academic field experience and support AUS students and professors throughout their academic journey", said Jean Claude Farah, Western Union Senior Vice President for Middle East and Africa. This agreement between both parties will cover exchange of knowledge, training programmes, joint developmental programmes, leadership programmes, academic research and activities as well as other areas of mutual interest. Western Union and AUS have a long-standing relationship and have collaborated on several occasions in the past, the latest being the Western Union Women Icons and The Business for Better Competition. |
