UAE to take part at the International Conference on water shortage in the region

The UAE will take part at POWER-GEN Middle East in the Kingdom of Bahrain in February 2009. The conference will discuss the economic growth in the Middle East, development, Arab water shortage problem, expansion in nuclear energy plants for civil purposes and ways of dealing with rapid population growth amid decrease of water and energy in the Arab countries. Neil Walker, expert in Panwell Group, said that the conference will discuss a number of future energy projects in the GCC to meet huge economic growth in the Gulf and the Middle East. He expected that energy industry investment of the Middle East countries will touch US$120billion in next 10 years due to huge growth in industry, property development, commercial and tourist projects. This year’s theme, ’Keeping Pace with the Middle East’s Economic Expansion’, is quite pertinent to an event that aims to discuss how the Middle East can plan and meet the power and water demands of the future, in a region that is experience growth at an extraordinary rate. The Gulf region is seeing an annual average increase in demand for power at around 8%. With renewable water availability expected to fall and populations rapidly rising, the region’s authorities have to continuously increase supplies. With all the GCC countries requiring significant growth in the power and water sectors, an estimated $120 billion investment is anticipated in the industry over the next 10 years.
