Abu Dhabi Hosts 8th International Meeting of Obstetrics and Gynaecology











The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), an international membership organisation whose mandate is setting standards for women’s health, will be holding its 8th International Scientific Meeting of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Abu Dhabi from 7 to 9 December, with support from SEHA, the Abu Dhabi’s Health Services Company. The three day conference, to be held at Emirates Palace, will bring together an estimated 1500 doctors and health practitioners from all over the world to discuss critical issues and key advancements in the treatment of women’s reproductive health, including fetal medicine in the 21st Century, improvements in the diagnosis and management of gynaecological cancers, modern management of sexual and reproductive health, professional development and global changes in postgraduate medical education. The event, which is held every two years, will take place in the Arabian Gulf for the first time. The RCOG has more than 600 members based in the Middle East. "SEHA is proud to be hosting the RCOG in the UAE, as it is an important medical event that will hopefully attract a strong participation from this region and help to elevate standards in maternal and newborn health internationally," said Saif Bader Al Qubaisi, Managing Director of SEHA. Professor Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, President of RCOG added: "The RCOG encourages the study and advancement of the science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology and we believe hosting the conference in Abu Dhabi will bring to light many of the important health issues that are relevant to this part of the world. "We look forward to the sharing of information and knowledge with doctors and healthcare professionals from this region and hope the conference will strengthen relations with the RCOG body in the UAE, and with all the doctors and practitioners in this region." A distinguished international faculty with experts from the UK-based Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists lead the discussions which will open with a plenary session; thereafter , the programme will split into four parallel streams focusing on specific topics in gynaecology and obstetrics. The organising committee is Chaired by Dr. Mohammad Elsheikh, Head of the UAE RCOG Representative Committee and a Consultant Ob-Gyn on staff at Al Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi. The scientific sessions will include lectures, workshops, satellite symposiums, and a large exhibition showcasing new technologies and products. Participants will be able to secure continuing education (CME) hours as well as benefit from the opportunity to update their knowledge and gain valuable insight into case studies, alternative therapies and new methodologies. The conference will feature exciting social programmes and provide ample networking opportunities.
