The Social Effects Of Satellite Television Series On Arab Families Is Explored In This Week’s ’Nashwa’











A special episode exploring the social effects of satellite television series on Arab families is the focus of this week’s ‘Nashwa.’ Nashwa Al Ruwaini meets several guests whose lives and those of their families have been affected by their obsessive following of television series.

‘Nashwa’ is aired on Dubai TV every Monday at 22:30 and repeated every Saturday at 18:00.

Guest Nabil Nasser talks of the constant conflict with his wife because of the effect of Turkish series on her life and her complaints that she works most of the hours of the day and doesn’t treat her with tenderness and romance like the actors in the series. Another husband, Tamer Dahab, hides the TV remote control from his wife so she does not sit in front of the TV for three hours watching Turkish series.

Turning the table on the men, Ibrahim Badawi found himself without a fiancee because of his obsession with watching football which led to his neglecting her. The show also outlines the different viewpoints of the audience, especially the youth of various nationalities, cultures and tastes.

Dr. Mohammed Murad Abdullah, Manager of the Decision Making Support Center of Dubai Police talks of the Dubai campaign to ban satellite channels that demean and have negative effects on society.

Concluding the show is Dr. Khayri Ibrahim Al Mult, the founder of the National Project to revive Pharonic music who played segments of pharonic music and songs and explains more fully how the music was discovered and how to recreate ancient instruments.
