ADEK Signs MoU’s With Six Government Entities For Expansion Of Community Schools Project

Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, Chairman at the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, has witnessed the signing of six Memorandums of Understandings between ADEK and a variety of government entities.

Also witnessing the signings were Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health, DoH; Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development, DCD; and Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism.

Government entities participating in the signing of the Memorandums of Understandings included the Department of Health, DoH, Department of Urban Planning and Municipality, Department of Community Development, DCD, Abu Dhabi Police, Department of Culture and Tourism, and Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, with an aim to provide new programmes and activities to develop the community schools project, and optimize the use of school infrastructures and facilities.

Dr. Yousif Al Sheryani, ADEK’s Undersecretary, signed the agreements with Mohamed Al Hameli, Undersecretary at the DoH; Mubarak Obaid Al Daheri, Undersecretary of the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities; Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Department of Community Development; Major General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Police; Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary of DCT and Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Managing Director of Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.

Dr. Al Nuaimi stressed the importance of all six MoU’s, noting, "It is with great pleasure that we witness such a pivotal agreement, that comes in line with our prudent leadership’s vision to create an innovative, stimulating and unified learning environment for the community at large, one that helps build human capital, while driving the economy forward."

He pointed out that a steering committee, consisting of strategic stakeholders and partners, and chaired by ADEK, will be formed to oversee and develop community schools strategies and action plans.

"Each of the six MoU’s signed today correlate with the nation’s aim to provide a growing population with diversified experiences and exposure, and best utilize their leisure time in activities that will enhance their learning and behavioral skills. The community school activities and programmes help children develop their skills and capabilities, and enable parents to follow up on their children’s progress. Community schools will develop programmes that support people of determination and talents in various fields," he said, adding, "We aim to turn community schools into cultural and social hub, as these schools help build healthier community ties through exploring and nurturing talents, and promoting personal skills and family interaction."

He thanked all the entities for their efforts and support to achieve the Abu Dhabi vision.

Dr. Al Sheryani stressed the important strategic partnerships signed with the six different entities, with an emphasis on exposing students and the community at large and providing diverse educational learning experiences.

"Today’s MoU’s provide new and exciting opportunities for students, teachers, parents and the community at large, who will not only become part of an intellectual social and cultural hub, but will also be given the opportunity to select activities and projects they are passionate about. The move will increase engagement amongst community members, while bridging the gap between entities, thus providing learning experiences that will further elevate the UAE’s national identity, culture and heritage."

He further added, "ADEK’s leadership is keen to provide schools with qualified teachers and specialists to oversee and facilitate the various activities and programmes for students, participants, as well as capable supervisors who are requested to manage school buildings and facilities."

As part of the agreement, DCT Abu Dhabi will provide schools with integrated reading corners and library services, through the provision of electronic books. Workshops, reading competitions, and creative activities will also be carried out by DCT Abu Dhabi throughout the Emirate.

During the event, ADEK announced plans to transform more public schools into community schools, increasing the number to 30 schools by 2020 in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
