The UAE has opened an academy for handicrafts, where young Emiratis will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about traditional products.

The academy was launched on Saturday by the Emirates Heritage Club (EHC) as part of its participation in the five-day 16th edition of Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) that concluded on 29th September 2018 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

The EHC said the mission of the academy will focus on preserving the creation of handicrafts and passing them on to new generations, from 18 years and above.

It will also nurture and unlock creative skills of Emirati youngsters, develop their critical thinking, research and exploration to enrich their local culture.

Male students will be trained to create handicrafts involving textiles, glass, swords and daggers, tanning and men’s wear, while female participants will receive training in embroidery, hena design and making local products from fronds.
