Sheikh Salem Bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Ruler’s Office, In the presence of Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Art Foundation, officially opened the new exhibition ‘Subversive Forms of Social Sculpture’ at the Sharjah Art Museum.
The exhibition features artwork by two of the most prominent and acclaimed talents working in the conceptual art scene – Abdulnaser Gharem, a Saudi Arabian national, and Heimo Zobernig, from Austria.
Chairman of Sharjah Ruler’s Office toured the ‘Subversive Forms of Social Sculpture’ exhibition, which provides visitors with a thought-provoking overture to the new season of activities organized by Sharjah Museums Authority.
The exhibition at Sharjah Art Museum will be open to members of the public from September 26th to November 17th.
Sheikh Salem viewed the artworks produced by the artists Gharem and Zobernig, who have consistently created striking pieces that highlight concepts of social change and perceptions.
The strong messages that infuse the conceptual work of Gharem and Zobernig are presented in a thoughtful and poignant manner. The goal of each artist is to reshape people’s preconceptions, to spark debate and to inspire different interpretations using their art as a universal and engaging medium.
Visitors to ‘Subversive Forms of Social Sculpture’ will experience some of the artists’ most significant pieces including installations, film and paintings. Each piece encourages the audience to consider the major issues affecting society from a different perspective.
‘Subversive Forms of Social Sculpture’ is being held in cooperation with Galerie Brigitte Schenk, Cologne – Germany. Curated by Brigitte Schenk and Amira Gad.
Also in attendance at the official opening of the ‘Subversive Forms of Social Sculpture’ exhibition were Sheikha Nawar Bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director of Development at Sharjah Art Foundation, H.E. Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Authority, the artists Abdulnaser Gharem and Heimo Zobernig, and the exhibit’s curators, Brigitte Schenk and Amira Gad, along with a number of distinguished guests.
