Katching Kipchoge, a community relay race event organized by NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Athletics and Fitness at the University’s outdoor track, saw five teams out of the 12, comprising of 10-20 runners each, collectively succeed at breaking Eliud Kipchoge’s marathon world record. Kipchoge single-handedly completed a full marathon (ie 42.2 km) in 02:01:39 in Berlin, becoming the first person in history to go under 2:02 on a record eligible course.

Of the five teams, the Abu Dhabi Police team came in first place, (with a time of 01:45:51),  followed by Ultimate Athletics (01:47:38), the NYUAD Running Club (01:51:24), Haddins (01:55:10), and House of Runners (1:56:55).

The event also included an additional running team from NYUAD, as well as teams from Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Mubadala Marathoners, Miral, The National Health Insurance Company - Daman, and two teams from Abu Dhabi Striders - a voluntary club that welcomes runners of all abilities who are looking to improve their fitness.

Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Athletics Peter Dicce said, "NYUAD actively seeks ways in which to build relationships through sport. Katching Kipchoge brought over 200 runners from throughout the UAE to campus for a night of competition, collaboration, and community building. Teammates tirelessly worked and supported each other in achieving a common goal, while gaining a true appreciation for what Eliud Kipchoge accomplished."
