Increasing Demand For Quality Healthcare Drives Expansion Of Long-Term Care & Rehabilitation Unit In Sharjah

At the expanded unit, a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals offers patients optimal treatment solutions

In response to growing demand for its quality post-acute services across the country, NMC ProVita International Medical Center – a subsidiary of the UAE’s largest private healthcare provider, NMC Healthcare – has expanded its Long-Term Care & Rehabilitation Unit at Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah.

Um Khalifa, the mother of a patient named Mariam Salim Al Hmoudi, explained that she has noticed a great improvement in her daughter since she has been a patient at the Long-Term Care & Rehabilitation Unit, and that they are both much happier.

The Unit treats patients of all ages with one or more of the following: post-trauma, neuromuscular conditions, neurological conditions, acute or chronic respiratory failure, chronic kidney failure, post-operative complications, musculoskeletal disorders, congenital illnesses, and complex wound care.

“NMC ProVita International Medical Center is committed to making a difference to the delivery of healthcare across the UAE by providing advanced healthcare solutions. There is high demand for post-acute care in Sharjah, and our Unit is currently the only internationally accredited provider of this type of care in the Northern Emirates. With the growing number of older patients, our core focus is on providing an optimal level of functioning. Patients with critical illnesses also opt for our services because of our quality care,” said Dr Ahmad Al Khayer, Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services at NMC ProVita.

After the expansion, the Long-Term Care & Rehabilitation Unit at Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah and its multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals can accommodate twice the original number of patients. The Unit currently has more than 55 employees. While it offers a complete range of preventive, curative and rehabilitative services as the first LTC unit in the region with JCI accreditation, quality patient-centric care remains its core focus.

Dr Al Khayer added, “Since the Unit at Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah opened, we have had a steady flow of patients and, at times, we have also had waiting lists. The expansion helps us meet our goal of providing patients with quality, specialised medical care.”

NMC ProVita International Medical Center currently operates from three locations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Sharjah. With the expansion of the Unit at Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah, the Center provides an increasingly innovative suite of post-acute care services from inpatient to home care and even home dialysis.
