MoU signing ceremony held at ENEC headquarters in Abu Dhabi

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Enusa Industrias Avanzadas, S.A., S.M.E. (ENUSA), defining a framework for collaboration and the exchange of information and expertise in the field of nuclear fuel services.

Founded in 1972 with a focus on uranium mining, ENUSA has evolved into an advanced nuclear fuel and environmental services provider. Today, ENUSA is responsible for the design, manufacture and supply of fuel to Spanish nuclear energy plants, as well as to plants around the world, in addition to providing a wide range of nuclear fuel services, from inspection, repair and irradiated fuel handling to spent fuel management, and associated engineering services.

The MoU was signed at ENEC’s headquarters, Abu Dhabi, by His Excellency Engineer Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, and José Vicente Berlanga, President of ENUSA, during a ceremony attended by senior officials from both ENEC and ENUSA.

The memorandum comes within the framework of ENEC’s strategy of working with international companies based in countries with established nuclear energy programs. The MoU outlines potential areas of collaboration between the two parties, and highlights several key areas of special interest, including the nuclear fuel services and components for the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program.

“We are delighted to sign this MoU with ENUSA as we continue to benefit from the global cumulative experience in various sub-sectors of the nuclear energy industry,” said H.E. Eng. Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO of ENEC. “ENUSA has an excellent track record and decades of experience in the nuclear energy sector and we look forward to collaborating with the organization in the coming months and years ahead.”

“ENEC is committed to developing the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program in line with the highest international standards of quality, safety, and security and working with various global organizations enables us to share insights and expertise. Such collaboration is important for the future development of the nuclear energy sector within the UAE and internationally,” concluded H.E. Eng. Al Hammadi.

Jose Vicente Berlanga, President of ENUSA, stressed upon the strategic significance of the agreement, as ENUSA is also representing the interests of the Spanish Administration. He also highlighted ENUSA’s desire to seek opportunities for mutual cooperation with ENEC,and serve as a point of contact for other Spanish companies or institutions of interest for ENEC and the wider UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program.

The MoU contributes to the long-standing relationship between the UAE and Spain, spanning numerous sectors and industries, and illustrates ENEC’s commitment to engaging with the international nuclear energy industry to ensure the highest standards of excellence are established in the continued development of the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program.
