Sharjah Chamber Explores Cooperation With South Africa, Belarus











The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, SCCI, represented by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI, held discussions with Mogobo David Magabe, South Africa’s Consul-General in the UAE, and Igor Bondarev, Consul-General of the Republic of Belarus in the UAE, on enhancing joint cooperation, and exploring trade and investment partnerships.

In the first meeting, the SCCI Chairman met with Magabe and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Waleed Abdul Rahman Bu Khatir, Second Vice Chairman of the SCCI, Mohamed Ahmed Amin, Acting Director-General of the SCCI and Fatima Al Mokarrab, Head of the SCCI’s International Cooperation Department.

The meeting discussed cooperation and investment opportunities in various sectors, mainly, South Africa’s tourism sector, where Magabe called for making use of Sharjah’s expertise in the field of family tourism.

Al Owais invited South Africa’s private sector to take advantage of the specialised economic exhibitions organised by the emirate of Sharjah throughout the year to learn more about Sharjah business community’s needs, in addition, to discovering the opportunities in the diverse economic sectors.

In the second meeting, Al Owais met with Bondarev in the presence of Bu Khatir, Amin, and Jassim Al-Mutawa, Consultant of Relations with the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The two sides discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation in various domains and means of promoting the relationship between the two countries.

Bondarev conveyed the invitation of Vladimir Ulakhovich, Chairman of The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to the Sharjah Chamber to visit Belarus and learn more about the available investment opportunities, as well as ways of strengthening joint trade cooperation. He also called on the Sharjah Chamber to lead a commercial delegation representing Sharjah’s private sector to participate in the economic events organised by his country.

During the meeting, Al Owais examined with Bondarev the possibilities of organising a trade and economic exhibition in Sharjah and inviting a wide range of Belarusian companies to participate.

The SCCI Chairman emphasised the positive impacts of such meetings with members of the diplomatic corps in the country since these meetings always focus on fostering partnerships and enhancing economic cooperation.

Al Owais underlined that the success of Sharjah’ business environment in reaching a global position forms a driving factor of the worldwide attention to consolidating economic ties with the emirate.
