Qasr Al Hosn Welcomes Global Dignitaries |

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), welcomed at Qasr Al Hosn a delegation of more than 100 ambassadors representing countries around the globe. The dignitaries were received by Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, convening before the National Consultative Council in a symbolic gesture to honour the cultural diplomacy deeply rooted in the soil of the UAE, the seeds of which were sown by the founding fathers of this country. Upon arrival, delegates were led on a tour of the historic fort by Salama Al Shamsi, Director of Qasr Al Hosn, and visited its permanent exhibition, which narrates the story of Abu Dhabi and its people through oral testimonies, artefacts, historic photographs, and interactive displays, with the support of Qasr Al Hosn team. Qasr Al Hosn is the oldest and most significant heritage site in Abu Dhabi city, encompassing two iconic buildings: The Inner Fort, which was built around 1795 to protect the settlement of Abu Dhabi established on the island in the 1760s, and the Outer Palace, built in the 1940s. A witness to Abu Dhabi’s vibrant history, over the past two centuries it has served as a home to the ruling family, the seat of government, the consultative council and the national archives. Transformed into a museum in 2018 following more than nine years of intensive conservation and restoration work, Qasr Al Hosn is a national monument that encapsulates the development of Abu Dhabi from a settlement reliant on fishing and pearling in the 18th century, to a modern, global metropolis, with displays of artefacts and archival materials dating back as far as 6000 BC |
