Emirates Steel hosts local and international stakeholders to discuss best practices in health and safety

Emirates Steel, the only integrated steel plant in the UAE and a subsidiary of the General Holding Corporation (SENAAT), has reaffirmed its commitment to developing and implementing best practices in health and safety while celebrating World Steel Safety Day on April 28.

During the week, the company will welcome local and international organizations to exhibit their innovative health and safety solutions and foster dialogue with employees on how to ensure the highest international standards of workplace safety are maintained across Emirates Steel’s facilities.

The celebration of the World Steel Safety Day comes roughly one year after Emirates Steel’s implementation of the Aman Safety Excellence Program, developed in partnership with Dupont Sustainable Solutions, the global leader in safety and process safety management. The program aims to mitigate key risks in day-to-day operations, raise the level of discipline in executing tasks at the shop floor level and build a strong and consistent safety culture.

We have implemented numerous initiatives over our twenty year history to ensure that our plant is a safe and secure place to work, and that feedback from our employees is incorporated into all of our policies and procedures.”

“Our activities this week seek to complement the already extensive training offered to those working across our company. We are also delighted to have the opportunity to share best practices with other organizations from a wide range of industries and fields. Enhancing health and safety is an endless but crucial journey, and we are proud to be at the forefront of the industry when it comes to ensuring our employees wellbeing,” added Eng. Al Remeithi.

Over the course of the week, companies including Emirates Logistics, NAFCO, Abu Dhabi Police and DuPont will be exhibiting at Emirates Steel’s headquarters. They will present their latest health and safety solutions and share lessons learned. Emirates Steel, through working with local and international firms and stakeholders, seeks to ensure that it continues to lead the industry in implementing best practices and raising awareness of the importance of health and safety.

As a part of the week’s activities, Emirates Steel is holding a safety competition for those working across the company, Additionally, the company is hosting activities throughout the week on best practices for staying healthy at work, as part of the company’s continued commitment to the comprehensive wellbeing of its employees.

An initiative of the World Steel Association, World Steel Safety Day was established in 2014 to reinforce awareness of the five most common causes of safety incidents and to create a safer working environment across the entire steel industry worldwide.
