The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) recently hosted a ceremony during which it announced the addition of several new specialised books and publications to the SCCI library. The ceremony was attended by Hussein Mohammed Al Mahmoudi, Director General of SCCI; Alison Devine, Deputy Director, British Council, UAE; Ranjit Gajendra, Regional Manager, University of Strathclyde Business School, UAE and Gulf region; and Sherry Farzami, British Council Project Manager- Education in the UAE. In all, 250 new books featuring the best specialised British publications in the areas of public administration, human resources, business, art of leadership, finance, marketing and accounting, among others, will be added to the SCCI library.

The move comes in line with SCCI’s commitment to develop the services provided to its associate members, which will help in supporting their investments and drive the development process in the emirate. In addition, it allows the approximately 48,000 associate members, researchers, specialists, colleges and universities in the country to be familiar with the latest releases of publications in various literary and scientific fields. This initiative, which complements the Chamber’s CSR programs, also reflects its efforts to enhance communication within the society and is also in line with the Chamber’s strategy to promote education.

Commenting on the event, Hussein Mohammed Al Mahmoudi said, “This move comes in line with SCCI’s commitment to implement the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, which focuses on the promotion of education in society while fostering creative thinking. This selection of new books is an important addition to our library, which is regarded as one of the best specialised libraries in Sharjah. Moreover, the library is regularly visited by researchers, students and businessmen, who take advantage of the vast collection of specialised books in diverse fields. I thank British Council and the University of Strathclyde for their cooperation and contribution in further enhancing the SCCI library.”

For her part, Alison Devine, said, “Since several years, Sharjah has been known for its cultural and intellectual significance, complementing the major developments taking place in this domain across the UAE. In this context, we are pleased to support the SCCI, which plays a pivotal role in promoting Sharjah’s cultural heritage, while fostering constructive inter-cultural communication, through regularly organising seminars, workshops and conferences. We believe that this library is a cultural platform for works of excellence in various professional fields.”

After the ceremony, the academic delegation was briefed on the scope of the Chamber’s work followed by a tour of the library.
