Etihad Appoints Senior Team For New Japanese Service











Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced the appointment of Masatsugu Nishiyori (Nick) and Juan Torres to head up its offices in Japan.

Based in Tokyo, Mr Nishiyori will serve as the airline’s vice president – general manager in Japan, while Mr Torres will take up the position of commercial manager.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways chief commercial officer, said: "Our senior representatives in Japan bring extensive experience and expertise to this dynamic and unique market, where they will play a key role in establishing our commercial organisation and offices. I am very pleased to welcome them to our growing team."

Mr Nishiyori has held several senior strategic roles in All Nippon Airways (ANA) in finance, sales and marketing, network strategy and distribution. He has extensive knowledge of the Japanese market in addition to international experience in the United States, where he headed up the sales and marketing team when ANA started services in 1986.

Mr Torres has a wealth of commercial airline experience in senior management positions at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Etihad Airways, most recently as country manager, Philippines.

Etihad is scheduled to start a five-flights-a-week service from its Abu Dhabi home base to the Japanese capital Tokyo, from March 2010. The airline also has the option to start flights to the regions of Kansai and Chubu.
