Successful ADMAF Hakawati Performance Of "Al Jawhara" Continues In Ras Al Khaimah


- ADMAF committed to the promotion of traditional Arabian storytelling throughout the region










Following a successful debut performance in Sharjah earlier this month, the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) will present “Al Jawhara”, the fictional historic play directed by Hakawati or storyteller Ahmed Yousef, this Friday 25 September 2009 for audiences in Ras Al Khaimah.

This follow-on performance forms part of ADMAF’s educational programme to involve people of all ages and from all Emirates with art and culture, with a specific focus on the traditional art the Hakawati, a unique art form that will feature as a key theme in ADMAF’s events throughout the year.

“Al Jawhara” or Jewel in English, draws on the rich history and culture of the Arabian Gulf and reflects the jewel found within the soul of humans. Set in the 1500’s and portrays historic events during the period of Portuguese settlement; the play will be performed by the Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped with participation of disabled students as actors.

Mrs. Hoda Al Khamis Kamoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, said:

“The grand opening of this wonderful play was received with great interest and enthusiasm, and we are delighted to offer even more people throughout the UAE the chance to witness the art of hakawati with this performance in Ras Al Khaimah.”

The performance is open to the public and will take place at the Cultural Theatre, Al Hosn Road (opposite Manar Mall) in Ras Al Khaima. Doors open at 8:00pm, play starts at 8:30pm.
