Industry Experts To Showcase Oil And Gas Projects At Abu Dhabi Conference 2009

Prominent government and private sector speakers to discuss major trends, issues and challenges affecting local and regional O&G business and showcase developments

As Abu Dhabi emerges as one of the most active oil and gas project markets in the world, MEED estimates that the emirate will spend more than USD30 billion on new schemes between March 2009 and March 2010 as it aims to seize the momentum while benefiting from low materials and engineering costs. This is in line with Abu Dhabi’s goal to increase oil production capacity to 3.5 million barrels per day by 2019.

As a result of these vast expansion plans, potential for investment within the emirate is huge. MEED has gathered the industry’s leaders to debate and discuss the current oil and gas market in order to highlight where the existing and future business opportunities lie.

Abu Dhabi Conference 2009, the 5th edition of the definitive event for doing business in the UAE’s capital, which runs from 10th – 12th November 2009, has confirmed the participation of key government officials, and oil and gas (O&G) industry experts who will discuss the future of their activities across Abu Dhabi.

Among the confirmed main speakers for the event’s O&G sessions are Frank J. Kemnetz, President, Exxon (Al-Khalij) and President, ExxonMobil Abu Dhabi Offshore Petroleum Company; Maurizio La Noce, Executive Director, Mubadala Energy & Industry and CEO, Mubadala Oil & Gas; and Mohamed Al Azdi, CEO, ChemaWEyaat.

“The exceptional O&G speaker line-up for this year’s conference offers various networking and knowledge opportunities for stakeholders and concerned parties. While the Gulf remains the world’s largest energy producer, its sustained growth needs to be carefully planned with respect to today’s challenging global economic conditions. Through the invaluable views of our invited experts and decision makers, attendees will acquire a more precise and timely overview of the O&G business and learn what it takes to succeed in this highly lucrative market,” said Edmund O’Sullivan, Chairman, MEED Events.

The 2009 Conference’s Government speakers will include H.E. Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development; Fahad Al Raqbani, Deputy Director General, Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development; Falah Al Ahbabi, General Manager, Urban Planning Council; and H.E. Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, CEO, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority. Among the event’s key sponsors are Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority; HSBC; Abu Dhabi Polymers Park; National Holding; and METITO.

“One of the foundations of business growth is to meet the right people at the right time. The regional and global O&G markets are evolving under a new global economic order; this requires realignment not only of our strategies but of our partnerships as well. Abu Dhabi Conference 2009 will enable participants to interact with key O&G leaders and top performers who can offer insights into their best practices and unique strategies. The event has also been known to lead to new alliances for better business growth,” added Khalifa Sultan Al Suwaidi Business Development and Corporate Planning Abu Dhabi National Chemicals Company (ChemaWEyaat)

The Abu Dhabi Conference 2009, which is organized by MEED Events and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, underlines the emirate’s Vision 2030 development plans.

Running from November 10 to 12, 2009 at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi under the theme “Maintaining Growth Through Economic Diversification,” the conference will welcome more than 400 attendees from over 20 countries, 65 per cent of who will be senior level executives.
