UNESCO Lists Intangible Cultural Heritage Elements











The Intergovernmental International Committee for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage at UNESCO has endorsed in its fourth meeting here the list, including 76 intangible cultural heritage elements submitted by 34 countries.

China topped the list with 22 elements, Japan with 13 elements and Croatia with 7 elements.

The third day session was chaired by Awadh Ali Saleh, head of the Intergovernmental International Committee for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage at UNESCO.

The nomination commenced with the Tango dance of Argentine and Uruguay, Azeri Mugam and Nowrus celebrations of Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Pakistan and Bulgaria.

Dr Nasser Al Hemeeri, director of the Intangible Heritage Department, expressed his pleasure about this huge event, adding that "the Declaration of Abu Dhabi on the best elements of intangible cultural heritage is a pride for the UAE. He thanked those who took part in the event." The committee is currently discussing the list, which includes 76 elements submitted by 34 countries to register them in the UNESCO list to preserve them.
