Marc Ecko Beat Box Battle Sends First Middle East Champ To Germany

Richie Lozada from the Phillipines won the first ever Middle East Beat Box Golden Mike in a ceremony held at the Mark Ecko stand at Barbican Turbo, which took place over the weekend. Richie has won a trip to Germany to compete in the World Beat Box Championships and a Marc Ecko Watch valued at over DHS 1000.

The competition, which was supported by Marc Ecko Watches, the leader in street fashion timepieces, saw Richie triumph over 12 other amateur beat boxers to take the coveted Golden Mike. Richie will be the first ever competitor from the Middle East to compete in the World Beat Box Championships to be held in Berlin in 2010. The event was judged by Bee-Low, the founder of the World Beat Box Battle and one of the original practitioners of Beat Boxing.

“Beat Boxing is a relatively new phenomenon in the Middle East. I was highly impressed by the amount of talent which I witnessed and am keen to see the scene mature in this region,” commented Bee-Low.

Also over the weekend, Samer Farraj, a 20 year old from Sudan, and Saif Chilmiran, a 19 year old Canadian were joint winners of the three day graffiti competition, another event sponsored by Mark Ecko Watches. The competition involved a number of amateur graffiti artists from across the Emirates.

“Mark Ecko has always been a keen supporter of the street art and street culture. We are proud to help raise the profile of beat boxing in the Middle East and to help young artists turn their passion in to a profession, as Marc Ecko has,” stated Dany Kheirallah Zaccour, the Marketing Project Manager for Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the Middle East retailer of Mark Ecko watches.
