New Black Pearl Award Trophies Unveiled at the Middle East International Film Festival

The awards ceremony of the third edition of the Middle East International Film Festival, to be held on October 17 in Abu Dhabi, will feature a new trophy that is the fruit of an exciting collaboration between two leading jewelry designers, Azza Fahmy from Egypt and Azza Al-Qubaisi from the United Arab Emirates. The new trophy for the Black Pearl Awards resonates with the Festival’s commitment to nurture and support Middle Eastern cinema and culture by creating dialogue and a forum for creative expression in the region.

“We wanted a trophy that could visually represent the meaning of the Black Pearl Awards and the image that did this best was a beautiful door based on traditional Arabic patterns. We see it as a sort of portal suggesting a bright future for the award-winner, while also representing what our festival is: an open gate between cultures. The black pearl at the center of the door links to the history and traditions of Abu Dhabi, while the artistic touch of Azza Fahmy and Azza Al-Qubaisi marks the trophy as distinctly contemporary and points ahead to ways to imagine and shape the future,” said the Festival’s Executive Director, Peter Scarlet.

“I am proud to have designed the trophy of such an esteemed event that brings together Arab talent and works hard in sharing their work with the rest of the world,” added Azza Fahmy, who has gained worldwide acclaim for her jewelry that fuses traditional and contemporary designs.

Azza Al-Qubaisi, whose workshop produced the trophies, said, “Having designed and produced of last year’s trophies, this year’s collaboration with another designers has broadened the spectrum of my experience. I’m really looking forward to the future development of next year’s trophies and the involvement of more local talents. The chance to diversify the experiences of our local artists by working with people from around the whole world is an invaluable opportunity.”

The genuine black pearls at the center of the trophies are generously offered by Robert Wan, the worldwide leader of black pearls. Each pearl is unique and its natural color guaranteed as all the pearls are selected by Robert Wan.

“We are proud to be one of the sponsors of the Middle East International Film Festival and to provide the pearls for the elaboration of these stunning trophies. We decided to provide a rare collection of our gems for this exceptional event”,says Mrs. Audrey Tcherkoff, Middle-East General Manager.

Mr. Robert Wan, most commonly called “the emperor of pearl” is the worldwide leader of black pearls. His brand makes a strong statement with the most beautiful pearls of the world, they harvest in his farms located on the middle of the Pacific Ocean, assembled with precious stones to form the finest pieces of high-end jewelry.
