FNC Passes State Emblem Law











Offenders of the state emblem and stamp will face a one-year jail term and a fine of not less than Dh 100,000 after the Federal National Council passed today new amendments to the federal law no 7 of 1972 regarding the state emblem and seal.

During the fourth session today, members of the FNC called for annexing the executive regulations of the law, noting that the previous law has been in force for 37 years without an explanatory note.

The house approved recommendations for conservation and development of fish wealth which will be raised to the federal cabinet for action.

Minister of Environment and Water Dr. Rashid bin Fahad told the house that his ministry were building and rehabilitating 23 fishing harbours across the country.

’’Fish catch is about 90,000 tonnes while imports stand at 87,000 tonnes and re-exports at 18,000 tonnes,’’ he added.

The recommendations called for :

* Increasing financial allocations for the fisheries sector and conducting comprehensive studies
* Reviewing laws and legislations regulating the fish resources and fishing profession
* Establishing a national company to develop and regulate the industry and market and distribute fish catch
* Organising annual fishing competition for school children
* Launching the Zayed award for fishing and Emirates international award for fisheries
* Increasing government financial support for fishermen with an annual Dh 200,000 foe each fishermen’s society
* Establishing infrastructure facilities like cold stores, and ice, freezing and drying factories and fuel stations near fishing quays
* Assessing the condition of current fishing harbours.
