Abu Dhabi Emerging As Hub For Renewable Energy And Climate Change











Renewable energy policy makers, government officials, business leaders, technologists, financiers and academics will come together in Abu Dhabi during the week of January 16-23, 2010 for Abu Dhabi Future Energy Week, a unique series of events focused on the advancement of renewable energy and developing practical solutions to mitigating climate change.

A number of international business and inter-governmental events will take place during the week, including the third session of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) Preparatory Commission on the 16 and 17 of January and the World Future Energy Summit, which runs from 18 to 21 January as well as the award ceremony for the Zayed Future Energy Prize on 19 January. Masdar will also host the United Nations Secretary General’s Energy and Climate Change Advisory Group meetings on 22 and 23 January.

Commenting on Abu Dhabi Future Energy Week, Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar, said: "Inspired by the vision of our leadership, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Week brings the importance of mitigating climate change into focus, providing a platform for the global energy industry to come together and facilitating the search for viable, commercial solutions that address today’s energy challenges." Underpinning Abu Dhabi Future Energy Week will be the third World Future Energy Summit, which is quickly becoming known as the leading industry event focused on the technologies and solutions that will make a clean energy future possible.

Also taking place during the week will be the Young Future Energy Leaders Program, which will run on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit. Initiated by Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, the program focuses on tomorrow’s energy leaders and will provide students and young professionals with an unparalleled opportunity to engage in discussions with some of the world’s foremost experts in energy, climate change and sustainability through a series of specialized workshops and seminars.
