ALHOSN University Supports Abilities Development Centre For Handicapped’s 1st Handicapped Sportsfest

Around 1,500 participants attend inaugural tournament

ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality, value-based education, fully supported the Abilities Development Centre for Handicapped - Abu Dhabi’s 1st Sportsfest for the Handicapped held yesterday (Monday, January 4, 2010) at the Al Jazira Sports Club in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament celebrated the UAE’s 38th year of independence and was attended by around 1,500 participants from various schools, most of whom were Grade 12 students . Among the sports played were basketball, football (penalty kicking), swimming, and running.

“It’s very important to make disabled persons feel that they are part of society and that they can engage in common activities. At ALHOSN, we have facilities and services that have been developed specifically for students with special needs. We believe that disabilities should not prevent persons, specially the youth, from enjoying life and achieving their potential. We commend the Abilities Development Centre for Handicapped for organizing this tournament, as sports provides a good opportunity for handicapped children to display their physical skills and competitiveness,” Prof. Sabouni, Vice Chancellor, ALHOSN University.

ALHOSN University is a regular supporter of the Abilities Development Centre for Handicapped. The University provided financial aid for a special walk on the Abu Dhabi Corniche organised by the Centre in commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day last April 2009. ALHOSN is involved in various other community and social causes in keeping with its motto of ‘global knowledge with local vision.’

Founded in 2005, ALHOSN University offers high-quality education to students of all nationalities. Its 11 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs in three faculties are all accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The university’s City Campus includes a Men’s Campus, a Women’s Campus, a Library Building, a Lectures Building, an Engineering Labs Building, and a new Studio Building. Included in its institutional goals is the development of ‘socially responsible graduates who are receptive to the community’s changing needs.’
