Abu Dhabi Department For Economic Development Partakes In The World Future Energy Summit 2010

The Abu Dhabi Department for Economic Development partakes in the World Future Energy Summit 2010, which takes place from the 18th to the 21st of January at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Center (ADNEC) under the patronage of H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The participation of the Department of Economic Development in the summit, comes in the form of a dedicated wing showcasing the services offered by the department, particularly in the fields of commercial activities, policy planning and regulations, investment promotion, and commercial licensing, and economics research that reflect the economic reality of Abu Dhabi in particular and UAE in general.

The exhibition also includes a summit that is considered the most important symposium held in the United Arab Emirates on the issue of renewable energy and attended by a large number of Heads of States, senior government officials, and subject matter experts.

His Excellency Mohammed Omar Abdullah, the Department’s Undersecretary stated that the decision of the United Arab Emirates to diversify its sources of energy, and stop its full dependence on fossil fuel, ushers a new era that turns the country into the leading market for renewable energy, known for its positive growth trends, as well as the regional leader in usage of renewable energy for national and regional economic growth.

His Excellency added that “this summit is in line with the rapid developments that the UAE has prompted internationally by being the first to permanently host the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in addition to the historic 75 Billion Dirham agreement with South Korea, represented by a consortium of Korean corporations to build and maintain four nuclear energy plants inside the UAE, and establishing the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, and announcing Masdar, the first zero carbon, zero waste city in the region”.

His Excellency also reiterated that the World Future Energy Summit is the perfect opportunity for Abu Dhabi to showcase its future plans and projects in that field to cement its role among regional and international leaders of industry, trade, and economy.

H.E. also added that this year’s summit provides an important platform for the Department of Economic Development to display its services and role in leading the diversification of the economy of the Emirate as per the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. The Vision highlighted the importance of alternative energy projects through its focus on the knowledge based economy and technology transfer to all development sectors, especially education.
Over 600 exhibitors from 50 countries will be participating at the World Future Energy and Environment Exhibitions on a total area of 40,000sqm offering an unrivalled business and networking opportunities to over 20,000 attendees expected to visit the summit and the exhibition.

Hamad Abdullah Al Mass, Executive Director for International Economic Relations Sector in the Department confirmed that one of the main reasons behind the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development participation in such an international event is to emphasize the leading role of the Department in supporting key economic activities in the emirate and its desire to portray Abu Dhabi to international audiences.

Mr. Al Mass concluded that the World Future Energy Summit coincides with the unprecedented and rapid development that the emirate of Abu Dhabi is witnessing, and that it will undoubtedly acknowledge Abu Dhabi’s leading role in the field of renewable energy, all for a cleaner environment and a safer future.
