Khalifa Foundation Delivers Medical Aid To Haiti

The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charitable Foundation is the first aid provider to deliver assistance to hospitals in the Dominican Republic to enable them treat those injured in the Haiti’s earthquake, Dominican Health Minister Dr. Humberto Salazar said today.

He said the UAE hallmarks in the humanitarian work were conspicuous.

The Dominican minister made his remarks after the Foundation delivered medial assistance to hospitals and health centres near the western borders to Haiti.

The Foundation paid a field tour health facilities in the region and met a number of senior Dominican officials and relief organisations to assess their urgent needs of medical and food supplies.

A member of the Foundation delegation said the food assistance would be transported to Haiti by land to be in coordination with the Government of Dominican, Haiti embassy in Santo Domingo, and orphanage in Haiti.

In another move, the Foundation has completed arrangements for implementing the second phase of the Haiti relief programme which was ordered by UAE President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance in coordination with the Government of Dominican.

He added that 500 tons of urgent relief materials would be purchased directly from the local market in the Dominican.

The Foundation has already sent a 77 ton plane-load of food and medical assistance.
