Preparation For ADISS 2010 Underway











The international Symposium, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahayan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces will feature the works of 17 contemporary artists from around the world who will be residing in Abu Dhabi for the duration of the Symposium.

Launched in 2009, under the guidance of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan - Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, the initiative is in line with Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision of establishing the city as the cultural centre of the Middle East region. ADISS 2010 will be held under the umbrella of Zayed University - an internationally accredited university with campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai - and in collaboration with Salwa Zeidan Gallery - one of Abu Dhabi’s eminent contemporary art spaces from February 25th till April 7th. The project is also in partnership with Abu Dhabi Municipality and the Armed Forces Officers Club.

Zayed University Vice President, Dr. Sulaiman Jassim, highlighted the strategic importance of this milestone cultural event, and stated, "Abu Dhabi is gradually affirming itself as a cultural capital in the region, and we are proud to be able to establish this artistic dialogue with such a diverse mix of artists through the art of sculpting and have no doubt that the positive impact of this project will last for years to come." "The artists taking part in this milestone event were carefully selected to create a multi-cultural atmosphere and were asked to present three proposals for sculptures that compliment the UAE, its culture and history," stated Symposium Director Salwa Zeidan, Director of the Salwa Zeidan Gallery.
