BID’s Shamkha Stadium Delivered In A Record Breaking 6 Months

Stadium to host first home football match between Baniyas Club & Al Wahadat

Baniyas Investment and Development Company (BID) today announced the completion of the new Baniyas Sports Club Stadium in Al Shamkha, Abu Dhabi. The state-of-the-art stadium, which was built in a record breaking six months’ time, is set to open its doors with an inaugural football match on February 8th, 2010 between the Baniyas Club team and the Jordanian team Al Wahadat. This match is part of the Baniyas Club International Championship.

Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Roger Tallibert, a name behind some of the best stadiums in the world, the stadium was built in a total of 6 months. Construction had begun on August 4th 2009 and was completed on February 3, 2010. More than 650 construction workers and 20 engineers worked together to make the speedy construction of the stadium a tremendous success.

Built to world-class standards specified by FIFA and the UAE Football League (UFL), the stadium accommodates 10,000 spectators and boasts a spectacular grandstand as well as three other spectator stands surrounding the football pitch. The new stadium also has special enclosures for VVIPs and dignitaries, as well as special parking and drop off points outside the main entrance, special VVIP seating and two private Majlis on the uppermost level. In total, there are more than 1,000 parking spaces dedicated for vehicles.

We look forward to inaugurating the stadium with the first match played on the new pitch on the 8th of this month.”

The new Baniyas Sports Club Stadium also has refreshment outlets offering a variety of snacks and beverages, including cafés on the first floor. Also on offer at the stadium are premier services for players such as Jacuzzi, steam room, cold baths, lockers and change rooms.

BID is currently developing Bawabat Al Sharq in Baniyas City -- the company’s first luxury mixed-use community development which encompasses unrivaled residential, retail, entertainment and sporting facilities. Construction of phase I of the project is on track and scheduled for delivery by the end of this year. Bawabat Al Sharq will include a sophisticated choice of schools, a medical centre, health club, specialty training clubs, a destination Shopping Mall and a major FIFA standard stadium with a seating capacity for over 20,000 spectators.
