ALHOSN’s Department Of Architectural Engineering Hosts Regional "Foundations For The Future Forum"











The Department of Architectural Engineering at ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality and value-based education, has today (Thursday, February 11- 2010) hosted the “Foundations for the Future Forum” at its Male Campus. Representatives from top architectural firms such as Burt Hill, Atkins (Middle East and India), and X-Architects were present.

Academic and professional architects discussed issues, trends, and challenges within the architectural field. Other vital topics such as the importance of applied research were also discussed. The forum provided the definition for the skills, educational standards, and best professional practices required from students aspiring to join the architectural profession.

His Excellency Prof. Abdul Rahim Sabouni, ALHOSN Vice Chancellor, opened the forum by welcoming the audience. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Naima Benkari, Chair and Assistant Professor of the Department of Architectural Engineering, giving an overview about the curriculum and achievements of the Department of Architectural Engineering. A second presentation by Mr. Ivar Krasinski, principal, Burt Hill, discussed high- and low-tech approaches to achieve efficiency. Sessions concentrating on architectural trends in the Gulf and educating future engineers were then held and were moderated by Dr. Mohamed Kashef, assistant professor,Department of Architectural Engineering, and Dr. Benkari. The closing remarks were delivered by Prof. Hamdi Sheibani, Provost and Dean of ALHOSN’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The Forum ended with nominations for the University’s Architectural Engineering Advisory Board.

“Several factors such as technological innovations and the current economic recession have created numerous challenges for the architectural profession. We need to consolidate our regional views so that we can come up with appropriate and creative solutions and convey them accordingly to the next generation of practitioners. We are thankful that the region’s top experts have accepted our invitation to share their views on the field’s most pressing issues. Moreover, we are confident that this event will help pave the way for the development of better theoretical and practical foundations for Middle Eastern architecture,” said Dr. Benkari, ALHOSN University.

ALHOSN University was founded in 2005 with the aim of providing ‘Global knowledge with Local Vision’. The Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences offer a total of eleven undergraduate and seven graduate programs. ALHOSN has been organizing various local and regional seminars and workshops to sharpen the theoretical and practical skills of its faculty and students.
