Abu Dhabi Serves Up Its Own Treat For Gourmet Abu Dhabi Stars

International food and beverage personalities, in the UAE capital for the Gourmet Abu Dhabi culinary festival which continues until Friday night, have been served up a treat of their own as they discovered the attractions of a destination now tipped by Lonely Planet and Frommer’s – two of the world’s leading guide books as a Top Ten place to visit in 2010.

The culinary experts from Japan, US, and Germany were left wanting more following a familiarisation trip hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which presents Gourmet Abu Dhabi.

“I am very impressed. This is my first visit to Abu Dhabi and I plan to come back again to spend more time in here. The mix between the desert and the city, the fact that you are inside the city at one moment and then in the desert following a half hour drive is very interesting,” said chateau owner Pieter Kaufmann.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was an instant hit with the group who admired its detailed design, and unique and rich architecture.

“I have never seen a mosque that is as large, beautifully designed or meticulously crafted as this one,” chateau owner Peter Sisseck. “This is a huge construction and I have to think that there are other landmarks in the city that I would need to visit in the future. I am here for 24 hours but I will come back again for sure.”

The tour also took in a camel farm and a 4x4 desert driving expedition.

“We wanted to make sure that as well as helping establish Abu Dhabi’s international gourmet credentials, the industry’s leading personalities and special guests have special memories of the destination to share when they return to their respective countries,” said Dayne Lim, member of the Gourmet Abu Dhabi organising committee.

The 15-day Gourmet Abu Dhabi festival ends on Friday night with a Gourmet Barbecue in the grounds of Al Raha Beach Hotel when members of its 51 star cast will serve up an al fresco feast. Gourmet Abu Dhabi is at the vanguard of the emirate’s campaign to be a global culinary destination leveraging Abu Dhabi’s renowned hospitality credentials.
